Buying an e-bike as a Gift: How to Do It Right

Tips for surprising a partner, parent, or friend with the right bike, and not the wrong one.

An e-bike is one of the most meaningful gifts you can give. It is also surprisingly easy to get wrong without input from the rider.

    Option 1: The gift certificate

The safest path. We offer gift certificates in any amount, redeemable in-store or on rentals. Let them pick the bike that fits.

    Option 2: The "joint expedition"

Wrap a printed test-ride invitation. Tell them you are buying, and you want them to choose. Better than any single-bike surprise.

Option 3: If you must surprise with a specific bike

We will swap it for any other bike within 30 days, no questions, no restocking fee. Tell them about that policy when you give it.

Why an e-bike makes a great gift

An e-bike is one of the few gifts that can change how someone spends their days. It can make commuting easier, open up new places to explore, and get people outside more often. For a partner, parent, or grown child, it can be a gift they use almost every day for years.

    The challenge with surprises

E-bikes are personal. Frame size, riding position, and how the motor feels all affect whether a bike is enjoyable. A surprise bike that does not fit can turn a great gift into a frustrating one. That is why we often suggest giving the experience of choosing a bike, not just the bike itself.

    Things to find out quietly

    • Their height and inseam, if you can find out without spoiling the surprise.
    • Where they would ride: errands, commuting, paths, or trails.
    • Whether they would prefer a step-through frame.
    • Whether they need to carry the bike up stairs or onto a car rack.
    • Any health concerns that might affect riding position or weight.

    Making the reveal special

If you choose a gift certificate or plan a shopping trip together, make it memorable. Wrap a helmet, bell, or bike lock with a card explaining the gift. Plan a test ride date and lunch in Old Town. The anticipation of choosing a bike together can be just as fun as the bike itself.

    Accessories that complete the gift

    • A helmet in their favorite color.
    • A good lock and lights.
    • A rear rack and basket or panniers.
    • A phone mount for navigation.
    • A water bottle and cage, an Arizona essential.

    Financing a gift

If you want to spread out the cost, Affirm financing is available on bike purchases from $700 to $30,000. Qualified buyers can choose 6 months at 0% APR, or 12- or 24-month plans with interest starting at 10% APR. You can apply in the shop or online.

What if it is not quite right?

We offer a 30-day return window, and we can help adjust the fit after purchase. Every new bike also includes a free Basic Tune-Up within six months, which is a great chance to fine-tune the setup once the rider has a few weeks of riding behind them.

    Holiday timing

Popular models and sizes can sell out before the holidays. If you have a specific bike in mind, plan ahead. We can hold a bike or help you order one in time, and we can help plan pickup so the surprise stays a surprise.

Have questions about choosing a gift? Call or stop by the shop. We love helping people give the gift of riding.

Gifts for riders who already own an e-bike

    • A tune-up or service package.
    • A new helmet with MIPS protection.
    • Upgraded lights for evening rides.
    • A rental day to explore new routes.
    • A gift certificate for accessories or gear.

These gifts are easy to choose and are always useful.

    Gift certificates

A PedalJets gift certificate lets the rider choose the bike or gear that suits them best. They can test ride models, get fitted, and pick accessories, with expert help along the way.

    Gifting for a beginner

If the person you are shopping for has never ridden an e-bike, consider starting with a rental. A day exploring the Indian Bend Wash or Old Town lets them experience e-bike riding without any pressure. If they love it, the rental can lead to choosing their own bike, and they will know much more about what they want. It is a fun, low-risk way to share the joy of riding.

    Visit the shop

Shopping for someone else can feel overwhelming. Tell us about the person you are buying for, and we will suggest options that fit their riding and your budget, from a full bike to a thoughtful accessory bundle.

PedalJets is at 4390 N Miller Rd, Suite 101, in Scottsdale, open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM. Call (480) 440-1099 with questions, or stop by and talk with our team in person.
