    A humble beginning

A bike ride sparked something bigger.

Dick Burke’s interest in bicycles grew from a family ride through Wisconsin’s Kettle Moraine and a chance meeting with bike-shop owner Bevil Hogg.

After learning that selling other brands was not enough, Burke and Hogg decided to build the kind of high-quality American bicycle they could not find anywhere else.

A Wisconsin idea, built by hand

    1975

A name over a few beers

Dick Burke and Bevil Hogg debated names at a Wisconsin supper club. Trek won for its sense of travel, freedom, and adventure.

    1976

    Born in a barn

Five employees opened the doors in Waterloo, Wisconsin, and built 904 hand-finished touring frames in Trek’s first year.

    Today

    Relentless progression

Trek still calls Waterloo home, building on a culture of craftsmanship, racing, and making bikes people love.

    Craftsmanship that keeps moving

    904 frames in year one.

Steel tubing. Silver-brazed lugs. Hand-painted finishes. Trek’s first bikes carried the belief that an American workshop could build something extraordinary.

    Crafted with purpose

The first Trek frames were lugged, silver-brazed, hand-painted, and built to challenge convention.

    Proven through racing

Competition remains a testing ground for the ideas and technology that improve every kind of ride.

    Made for the journey

From its name onward, Trek has stood for exploration, freedom, and the simple power of a bicycle.
